When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him. - Mk 1:32-34 | ||||||||||||||||||||

MARCH 6TH - MONDAY MORNING MOVIES: SHROUDThe official film for the 2010 Exposition of the Shroud. Written by Ian Wilson, it tells the story of the Shroud for our modern age of high technology to show the image of the Man on the Shroud as never before seen. This film does not shrink from examining the religious significance of what has become the single most studied article in history. Monday Morning Movies meets in the Parish Hall following the 9:00 a.m. Mass.MONDAY MONTHLY DINNERSDon't forget Monday night dinner, February 6th, beginning at 5 p.m. We have a great dinner menu of Pasta with meatballs, chicken fingers for the little ones, and of course salad, bread, and let’s not forget dessert. We appreciate donations for dessert. Hang out after Faith Formation classes, or just come on in so you don't have to cook after a long day.BOOKS GROUPAll are welcome to join us as we discuss Augustine's Confessions on Monday, February 6th at 7p.m. "The Confessions are not Augustine's autobiography. They are, instead, a deliberate effort, in the permissive atmosphere of God's felt presence, to recall those crucial episodes and events in which he can now see and celebrate the mysterious actions of God's prevenient and provident grace. Thus he follows the windings of his memory as it re-presents the upheavals of his youth and the stages of his disorderly quest for wisdom." Albert Outler, Fordham University. |

FAITH FORMATION CLASSES
Reminder: please note that due to February vacation there will be no K-6 classes on Sundays, February 19th & 26th and Monday, February 19th . K-6 classes will resume Monday, February 27th . There will be NO 7-Conf. II class on Sunday February 19th, classes will resume on Sunday, February 26th PRAYERS FOR 1ST EUCHARIST STUDENTSOver the past two weeks, our 1st Eucharist students started receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the very first time. Let’s keep them in prayer over the next couple of months as they continue to prepare to receive our Lord in First Holy Communion this spring.FOR FIRST EUCHARIST FAMILIESNow that First Reconciliations are underway, we turn our attention to preparing for First Eucharist!First, we wanted to remind you that the Parent-Only Meeting for First Eucharist will be Tuesday, February 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the parish hall. At this meeting, you will choose the date for your child’s First Eucharist celebration. The dates are April 28th, April 29th, May 5th, May 6th, and May 13th . Please note that we just added this fifth date, May 13th, to accommodate the large number of children participating in the program this year. Second, the First Eucharist Banner-Making Workshop will be held Saturday, February 11th at 11:00 a.m. We will begin with some activities in the church, then move to the hall to make the banners and if you wish bring your (brown-bag) lunch. Finally, we wanted to extend a special invitation to our First Eucharist families to attend the parish Mardi Gras Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, February 5th, at 11:00 a.m. Because our students are divided into five classes on two days, and will receive the Sacrament at five different Masses, they do not have a chance to meet as a group. We thought it would be nice for the First Eucharist families to gather together at the Mardi Gras pancake breakfast. So please join us. As always, please let us know if you have any questions. THURSDAY, 2/16 - WORLD RELIGIONS: PROTESTANTISMProtestantism represents the outcome of centuries of disagreement over doctrine and practice within the Catholic Church. Led by Martin Luther in 16th -century Western Europe, this spiritual revolution gained momentum and, under the helm of other Protestant leaders, thrived and grew into new factions around the world, especially in Europe and North America. Join us at Noon or at 7:30 pm as we study other faiths, requiring us to deeply embrace our own faith and strengthening us in relating socially, professionally, academically, and religiously in a world of diversity. The study of religions is a great contribution toward the cause of global peace. |
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRYDo you know someone grieving, or facing another kind of deep loss due to health or broken relationships? St. Joseph parishioners recently formed a Prayer Shawl Ministry where they knit, knot, or crochet beautiful shawls you can give to those facing serious, life-changing issues. Prayer shawls have been used throughout the generations, our Jewish ancestors used prayer shawls to help them to pray and remind them of God’s constant presence. Prayer Shawl Ministry meets in the Parish Library on the 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month. Materials and patterns provided. Stop by one of the next sessions on Monday, February 6th, March 5th or 19th and see what fun we have. To learn more about the Prayer Shawl Ministry contact Christa clucas@stjoseph.belmont.ma.us.ST. PATRICK'S "THE RESURRECTION"Save the date, Friday March 2nd as St. Patrick’s Family Players brings their production of “The Resurrection” to St. Joseph’s. “The Resurrection” a musical cantata, is the inspirational story of Simon Peter and the forgiveness of Jesus Christ. The performance leads the audience on an unforgettable spiritual journey as St. Peter, facing his own martyrdom, recalls his and the disciples experience with Christ. In moving song, Peter shows the anguish for his denial of Christ and the joy that comes with the Resurrection and Christ’s forgiveness. Secure with the love of the Resurrected Christ, Peter and the cast come to the realization that there is nothing that cannot be faced. The St. Patrick Family Players, a multi-denominational group featuring over 80 performers from 4 to 75, was founded by Judy Johanson for St. Patrick Church’s 150th anniversary. The performance will take place in our church and it is an hour and ten minutes in length. Since it is consider a ministry there is no charge but free-will donations will be taken to help defray the expenses of the group.PARISH FAMILY MONTHLY MASS WITH CHILDRENThe next Family Mass will be celebrated on Sunday March 4th and the Girl Scouts will be hosting the Mass in celebration of Girl Scout Sunday. LENTEN BIBLE STUDIESThe New MassDo you want to know why we have new words in the Mass and why we say what we say and do what we do during the Liturgy? This Bible study is for you! Join us as we delve into the Scriptural roots of the Mass. Each session includes placing the parts of the Mass in context, identifying the Scriptural foundations of the words and prayers we use at every Mass, and concludes with a practical reflection on how we can apply what we do at each Mass to our own lives. Join us for any of the three five-week studies:
Letting Scripture Speak to Us Today PLANNING2012.COMChanges are coming that will affect all parishes in the Archdiocese and parishioners need to be aware of, and to consider carefully, this information as we move into a different structure for sharing resources among parishes. Your input is very important in this process. For the past ten months, the Archdiocesan Pastoral Planning Commission (APPC) has been working on a pastoral planning document, entitled Disciples in Mission, which proposes a vision for the Archdiocese that flows directly from the mission that Jesus Christ has given to his Church. On December 5, 2011, Cardinal O’Malley and the Archdiocesan Pastoral Planning Commission met with priests of the Archdiocese of Boston and those serving in Archdiocesan parishes to begin the consultation process regarding the next phase of Pastoral Planning in the Archdiocese. Since the December 5th meeting, three rounds of consultations have been organized and are ongoing. The First Round, throughout the month of January, invited parish staff members (Deacons, Pastoral Associates, Parish Business Managers, DRE’s, School Principals, Music Ministers, etc.) to review the new mission initiatives and the basic principles of the planning model and elicited insights and responses from the participants. The Second Round continues in January to present the groupings or “Pastoral Collaboratives." Consistent with the ongoing tradition of the Watertown-Belmont Collaborative, the parishes of Sacred Heart and St. Patrick in Watertown and St. Joseph and St. Luke in Belmont were formally identified as "collaboratives" by the APPC. The Third Round begins in February and includes all the parishes in the archdiocese (in eleven separate meetings). Third Round meetings are for Parish Pastoral Councils and Parish Finance Councils. After the completion of all the Third Round of consultations, representatives from the Parish Pastoral Council, the Parish Finance Committee and the Parish Planning Group will be provided with suggested models or frameworks for Parish Town Hall Meetings, FAQ’s and other necessary material as this planning process continues over the next three- to five-years. Our Parish Staff and Collaborative Strategic Planning Committee will continue to provide information and answer parishioner questions as this planning process continues and more information becomes available. Please be sure to visit the Archdiocesan Pastoral Planning Commission’s and the Archdiocesan websites for materials, videos, press releases, parishioner surveys, and more:
